Invitations
- Cut circles from plain white paper or white or colored card stock. If you're handy with a computer and printer, make them up with all the info, print and cut.
- Invitation envelopes are available by the box at many local department and discount stores. Standard size is 4 3/4" x 5 3/4", so a 4 1/2" circle would fit nicely.
Attire
- Invite everyone to wear a (visible) article of clothing with polka dots.
- If a guest comes without one, have a polka dot party hat for them to wear, or find some polka dot ties at a thrift store, to go around the neck or waist. Even simpler, give everyone a polka dot name tag, so even those who come without will have one!
Food
- Round foods include cheese or pepperoni pizza, hamburgers, sandwiches cut with round cookie cutter (or large glass), served on round platters.
- Make a round cake and frost it, then add dots, such as sprinkles or Necco wafers - or both! Make sure the Necco wafers don't run in your frosting by testing a couple first.
- A simple round punch bowl with home-made punch (equal parts white grape juice and soda water)
Decorations
- Circles cut from colored poster board or construction paper for walls and these or felt circles for tabletop (trace pots or pot tops, round cake pans, plates, jar lids, and glasses for different sizes.
- Hula hoops - hang them on the walls or if you have room, suspend some from the ceiling vertically or horizontally.
Activity Ideas
- Coin toss (age 8+)
- Tiddly Winks - activity or prize (age 8+)
- Polka (dance) contest - so what if your guests don't know the polka, if they're kids, they'll be happy to pretend to polka music; or have someone teach the guests who don't know how. If any guests don't want to participate in dancing, perhaps they can help with the music , with judging, or awarding prizes!
- Hula hoop contest - who can keep it going the longest. Prize: a fancy hula hoop, of course!
- Frisbee - if outdoors, can just play with them or have contests for most volleys without dropping, farthest throw, etc. Learn some Frisbee tricks and teach them to the guests.
- Make masks from solid color paper plates. Make holes for the eyes and perhaps the nose, too. Attach yarn for hair using glue, use pens or crayons for making the face. Use yarn or ribbon on each side of the mask by the ears to tie it on - a hole punch is helpful for this!
- For young kids, give them a sheet of paper plus paper and construction paper circles to form into a caterpillar, using glue or glue sticks. Have small dots for eyes and to make into smiles. Pipe cleaners make good antennae and smiles, or let the kids draw them with crayons.
Favors and Prizes
- Hula hoops
- Frisbees
- A Tiddly Winks game (consider age/safety)
